The commercial port which is the main cargo handling facility for St. Kitts will now provide additional berthing for cruise ships up to 900 feet in length with a maximum draft of 24 feet during the tourist season. The port will only be used to berth cruise vessels on days when the two berthing spaces at Port Zante are engaged and there is a request for additional berthing. Vessels with gangways that are fitted forward of midship can be easily accommodated.
Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass shared that with the construction of the breasting dolphin, large cruise vessels can make St. Kitts, their port of choice.
“Our Port Zante facility has provided cruise lines with excellent berthing facilities in the past; now, with the construction of our new breasting dolphin we will continue to provide excellent services. When the cruise ships berth at our cargo port, our cargo operations will cease for the day and the cargo premises will be transformed into a tropical wonderland to welcome our visitors. However, with the second cruise pier at Port Zante scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the 2015/2016 cruise season, we expect to have all of our large cruise vessels berthing at the two piers at Port Zante.”
