BIRD ROCK, St. Kitts – January 6, 2015 (SCASPA): The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) maintained its long-standing commitment to the J N France General Hospital by donating six 32” televisions during the 2014/15 Christmas/New Year season.
Minister with responsibility for SCASPA, Honorable Richard Skerrit, Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass, Chief Accountant of SCASPA, Ms. Tuffida Stewart and Security Manager of SCASPA, Mr. Raymond Cotton represented the Authority at the handing over ceremony.
Minister with responsibility for SCASPA, Honorable Richard Skerrit, highlighted that SCASPA’s financial health has positioned the Authority to significantly give back to the community. “SCASPA has been going through a major transformation of its operations and financial viability. The Authority is now no longer a liability to the government on the fiscal side and is producing its own resources and operating on a reasonable level of surplus. SCASPA now is in the best state of health that it has been for a long time and since it is in a good state of health, SCASPA now looks around in the community and sees where it can contribute to help in the community.”
Minister Skerrit emphasized the importance of the donation stating, “one of the intuitions that contribute significantly to the public in terms of the delivery of health is the JN France General Hospital. The CEO of SCASPA, did some scouting and thought that one small but tangible way that SCASPA can show its love and appreciation for the hospital was to purchase and deliver six televisions so that the patients and staff can enjoy some high definition television. On behalf of the Board of Directors, management team and staff of SCASPA and the Ministry, thank you for the work you do here for St. Kitts and Nevis and let this be a small token for the wonderful work you do.”
On hand to receive the donation on behalf of the JN France General Hospital were Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development et al, Honourable Marcella Liburd, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Andrew Skerrit, Operations Manager, JN F General Hospital, Launette Adams, hospital administrative staff and nurses.
Minister Liburd expressed gratitude for the gesture: “Since SCASPA is in good health, you couldn’t find a better way to invest in the health of the people but by giving back. We are very happy here at JNF General Hospital that you have considered these televisions to give to us; we are really appreciative of them because they will certainly add to the quality of care offered not only to those persons in the hospital who are warded here but to persons who come in to do business.”
The donation was not the last made by SCASPA; the Authority will continue to fulfill its corporate mission in 2015 by developing enduring partnerships that deliver community-based solutions to the island.
