St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) has partnered with Carnival Cruise Line in the 5th anniversary of the Best in Class High School Quiz Competition. The winning school and the first runner up will tour Carnival Splendor and enjoy lunch aboard the vessel during an upcoming port call in St. Kitts.

Mr. Jonathan Bass, CEO – SCASPA, confirmed that SCASPA is pleased to strengthen its longstanding partnership with Carnival Cruise Line in a program that will encourage academic excellence amongst students on the island.

“Since SCASPA began this competition in 2010 it has drawn the attention and interest of a wide cross section of persons from within our community. This year, we are pleased to have attracted the attention of a major industry stakeholder, Carnival Cruise Line, who willingly pledged to support us in our effort to lead in the development of the nation’s youths. Carnival Cruise Line has a long history of supporting organizations that benefit our youth and we are happy that they have included SCASPA as a community development partner.”

In addition to the experience on the Carnival Splendor, winners of SCASPA’s annual Best In Class High School quiz competition will receive monetary prizes from SCASPA in excess of four thousand dollars (XCD $4000) and trophies for their outstanding performances.

The competition, quizzes third formers from high schools on the island on core subject areas of the curriculum – Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and Local History. The format of the competition comprises elimination/knockout rounds until two final schools square off in grand finale style which is aired live on ZIZ television.

The Grand Finale of the competition will take place on May 21, 2015 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank at 8:00 p.m. where academic giants of Basseterre High School and Immaculate Conception Catholic School will compete for the title, SCASPA Best in Class Champion 2015.
