BIRD ROCK, St. Kitts, March 21th 2014 – The Guidance and Counseling Department of the Basseterre High School (BHS) hosted its Career Development Week over the period of March 17 – 21, 2014. The event brought major businesses on the island together to showcase their unique products and services to assist the students in making the transition from academic life to professional employment.
As part of the week, the school hosted a Career Fair on March 21 on the school. Representing the Authority were Ms. Vincia Browne of the Meteorological Officer, Mr. Jamo Gishard, Marine Pilot and Mr. Xavier Grant, Air Traffic Controller. SCASPA’s Meteorological Officers, Air Traffic Controllers and Marine Pilots interacted with the students.
Public Relations Officer of SCASPA, Ms. Dentrecia Blanchette shared that a revised promotional strategy resulted in increased attention by the students.
“This year, we focused on our green initiatives as an organization. We showcased the ways in which we have become an environmentally friendly organization and have adjusted our operations to protect the environment; the students particularly loved that we are friends of the environment. The students flocked our booth this year…we were the only tent with a continuous flow of students at the fair. We believe that this increase in attention resulted from our improved promotional strategy used at the Fair: we allured the students with our giveaways and kept their attention with our interactive sessions. Overall, this year was success; a bigger success than last year and next year will be even bigger.”
The week provided an opportunity for students to explore career options and gain information about career aspirations.
