Over thirty (30) SCASPA staff members participated in a series of training programs in Tsunami Preparedness on April 16, 2014 in the Seaport Board Room. The interactive sessions were facilitated byretired Superintendent of Police and Tsunami Exercise Coordinator, Mr. Ivor Blake.

Facilitator, Mr. Ivor W. Blake provided participants with an understanding of the science behind tsunamis and exposed them to best-practices for protecting themselves during the disaster.

Safety Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Kervin Freeman indicated that the training sessions were the beginning of disaster preparedness safety programs that will be held for the staff members of the Authority.

“The Caribbean region is positioned to experience natural disasters within the near future. Our best response to the eventuality is to prepare our staff members and stakeholders to respond. We held the first of a series of training sessions, a Tsunami Preparedness program whereby we were challenged to prepare a tsunami disaster plan and our workers were sensitized to response methods. We will continue to invest in safety awareness programs and campaigns because we are only as safe as we are prepared.”
